Renovation - Week 9

Arrival of fridge

This week , we had a few more additions to making our home more complete . Our LG side by side 2 dr fridge arrived. We got it at a good price from Mega Discount which was far lower than those prices offered by Harvey Norman or Best Denki. In addition, it came with NTUC vouchers which came in handy for buying essetials for the home.

Arrival of Bedframe and Mattress
Our queen-sized grey suede bedframe also arrived from Furniture Club. We like the soft cushioned edges as we are prone to knocking into hard corners. Our bedframe has adjustable headrests which can be tilted from a flat position to an upright one. Our multi zone( firmer zones at the mattress edge for sitting, supportive zones for spinal support in the centre) 1600 pocketed spring mattress also arrived from Slumberland, purchased from Bedding Saloon. It's anti-dust mite and anti-allergen wool layers are suitable for Gayle as she's quite sensitive to dust. Bedding Saloon offered us a good deal with 3 Slumberland bolsters and 2 luxury pillows thrown in. We also bought 2 memory foam pillows for ourselves.

PD Doors
Installation of the PD doors for the store room and common toilet was also completed this week

The PD door has a opening and slide function which minimizes the opening radius and space clearance needed as compared to a conventional door or a bi-fold door. Each door costs $278 inclusive of frame , doors and installation.

Bedside table

Our bedside table arrived, purchased from OM. We search around for some time for affordable bedside tables that were also laminated black, before finding them at OM. But the prices were abit steep, after discount, costing us over $600 for both but there were no other alternatives as other bedside tables we saw were of the wrong colour or had woody grains. We are quite pleased with the complementary look of the bedside tables in our master bedroom but are still waiting for one replacement from OM as we found one of the bedside table with a small chipped corner. Meanwhile OM has allowed us to use it till the new replacement arrives in a month's time.

LIGHTING

Another posting of our lights . We ask for the installation of downlights not just in the hall(above) but also within the kitchen cabinet counter area as these area tends to be darker as light from ceiling mounted lights tend to be blocked as one stands at the counter.

KITCHEN CABINET CARPENTRY WORK II

Mounting of the laminated backing of the kitchen cabinet area facing the wash area was also done. The corner edges of the laminated backing are wrapped up to prevent damage while workers are moving in and out of the kitchen. Also the Red spray painted glass backing was installed. The red sprayed glass backing adds a bright dose of colour to brighten up the black cabinets.

CURTAINS

We also saw the installation of our curtains this week. Our curtains were sourced from Corri Track and Accessories, who are commonly present at the home furnishing fairs at Singapore Expo. We were billed slightly over 2k for day and night silk curtains for the hall, suede night and silk day curtains for the master room, inclusive of a suede curtain for the room passage way, roller blinds for the walk-in wardrobe room and common room(orange rm) and two layered black string curtain as a privacy screen for the main door entrance. In addition, suede curtains were also installed at our walk-in wardrobe to substitute for doors and screen dust and provide privacy to the wardrobe's content.

(Below ) Combination of suede black night curtains and silk black day curtains gives the master bedroom a cozy, classy feel. Our bed, TV and furnishing covered in plastic sheet to prepare for painting touch up next week. Plastic sheets can be purchased for $7 for 10 sheets from those shops that specialize in paper and plastic products.

AIRCON : Installation of fancoil units

Our system 3 Mitsubishi Starmex inverter aircon fancoil units were installed in the master bedroom, walk-in wardrobe room and the common(orange) room. On the advice of our aircon salesman - Liming from Natural Cool, we installed two 9000BTU units and one 12000BTU units in relation to the cooling capcity required for the floorsize. Too big a unit will result in unnecessary energy expenditure while too small a capacity will result in aircon being overworked. Total cost inclusive of installation of thicker piping and tubes was slightly over 3k but the workmanship is good and the workers very accomodating and friendly. Below is the fancoil at the common(orange) room.Try not to position your aircon above electronic appliances like TV so that in future ( touch wood! ) if the aircon leaks, it does not damage your appliances. Thus we shifted the original location of our master bedroom aircon away from the TV when advised.
